I am continuing to think ahead to my opportunity in New York Mills and have been doing a bit of research on the area, it’s history and how those might play into my creating. And meanwhile, I am settling into my new work space here at home and it begins to feel more like me each day.

Something that has been helpful was an article by Michelle Shay about setting up a travel art kit.

She has a good approach I thought, but then things really clicked once reaching the comments where Judith Burnett mentioned she was using this as a way to work during a time when she was rearranging her work space and needing to be able to grab things quickly in temporary spaces. My note to self was “Do this now” and it has been most helpful not only in the move but it testing out what I’ve chosen to have on hand.

I am also doing a bit of experimenting with a Finnish weaving technique: Raanu. While I’ve not been able to find a lot about it, this from All Fiber Arts spoke to me:

“A Raanu captures a moment in time, much like a photograph: the colours of the scenery or landscape, the moonlit sky shimmering over the snow. The sunlight shining through the clouds, the sea, the forest, the hills, the grassy fields”.

It feels like just what I am wanting to set out to do! (Note: my sample is practice and with scrap yarn, looking forward to adding more thoughtful color).
