Part of my residency includes some sort of community engagement which was left wide open for me to choose. When I notice an upcoming planned event I asked if I could tag onto that: https://kulcher.org/celebrating-cultures-2026/

While I’m not sure how much San Francisco culture I’ll bring to the event (maybe flowers in my hair?), I will talk about my exploration of the culture, flora and fauna of the New York Mills area as well as learning about the Finnish technique of Raanu weaving. And, that will let me introduce myself and give some opportunities for demonstrating tapestry weaving along with some hands on opportunities for attendees which sounds like fun to me!

I will be traveling with my Mirrix Chloe and will have that set up as well as some simple looms from forked sticks or depending on how quickly I get to know the local brew pub/pizza place, perhaps some round cardboard looms will appear. I’ll also have colored pencils and paper for some “virtual weaving planning” to happen as well.

Are you allowed to take rubbings of the gravestone? For use in a collage. Or do you need permission from City Hall?
